I have stayed at this Hotel before and to be honest was a little tired in places , the new owner has taken care of that , rooms are spacious and comfortable, a great location a few minutes walk from both the high street and old harbour, breakfast is standard Turkish fare, for other meals it is surrounded by restaurants , downside is no sea view (at least from the room that we stayed in), plus side is the pool(mostly in shade so not like a warm bath ), Will certainly return.... more
Somewhere a little bit different we found through gonorthcyprus and stayed with for a short break. We went mainly for the location, which is right in the heart of town and so a great spot from which to explore. The hotel itself is pretty unique with hubcaps and all sorts of car-related bits and bobs on the walls, definitely quirky. The staff are really friendly and helpful - all of them, and the manager spoke to us directly on arrival and when we left, which shows commitment to customer service.... more
If you don't mind going back to basics, this is the hotel for you. I booked a break here through gonorthcyprus, mainly for the location, but also because the price was too good to pass up. The hotel is situated right in the middle of things, which makes it an excellent base for getting around Kyrenia's main sights. It's quite an old-fashioned establishment but that didn't really bother me - the room was clean and functional, the bathroom needed a bit of TLC but that's about I could suggest for improvements.... more
If you enjoy authentic and traditional charm when you go on holiday, the Sofia Hotel fits the bill. Very well located just a couple of minutes away from Kyrenia's harbour, Sofia really is like a blast from the past and so different from the many high-rise modern hotels. We found the hotel on GoNorthCyprus.com and were impressed with the reviews, we wanted somewhere cosy and quaint, rather than a large impersonal resort. Well, we got what we wanted, with the added bonus of a fantastic location. The... more
Booked as a late deal we found this small hotel in the Old Harbour area , great location for boat trips Shopping/ eating out ,Our room was clean and comfortable if a little simple ,staff friendly though the language barrier sometimes a problem , We really didn't expect a pool at this price so was an added bonus, we called in to see the Agents that we booked through ( Go North Cyprus ) to reconfirm our return Taxi time , what lovely people and full of info, On Mandys recommendation we reserved a... more
The Sofia Hotel, as the name suggests, is a pretty old building with old world charm. Traditional old furniture completes the overall atmosphere of years gone by and I really liked the antiquated style, although I can appreciate it isn't to everyone's tastes. The setting is perfect, just a few minutes away from the harbour and the shops, and you can get a bus very close by that takes you to the beach in about 20 minutes really cheaply. I found the staff at the hotel very hospitable and helpful and... more
My favorite thing about the Sofia Hotel hotel is its location. My husband and I have visited Northern Cyprus several times in the past, and this is the second time staying at Sofia. We found it to be ideal for us, as we like to sightsee and prefer to walk. Here, we found everything we wanted to see (including the harbour, castle, and downtown area) to be very easy to get to on foot.In addition, we found the hotel itself to be delightful. Our room was beautifully decorated with antique furniture... more
My partner and I weren't really sure what to expect when we booked the Sofia. We chose it because it seemed quite exclusive and and thought that it wouldn't be over-crowded with lary tourists. The word boutique also made it sound quite special. In reality, it wasn't special and we are now very wary of the word 'boutique' as we're pretty sure that it just means small. Small is exactly what the hotel was. It was small and quaint as a hotel, which was actually quite nice because it was quiet and very... more
Our stay at the Sofia Hotel definitely came under the heading of "cheap and cheerful'. The hotel was cheap, the staff were cheerful, and the location perfect for us townies, right in the middle of Kyrenia. After reading some reviews, we made sure we got a room in the new building, and so avoided some of the maintenance-deprived older room problems such as water leaks and cold rooms. On the other hand, the bathroom was not really clean, the tv was on its last legs, and the steep steps to the rooms... more
