This is a hotel review for Bellapais Monastery Village in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“Family Summer Break in Cyprus”
We found the hotel to be very well run and looked after. The staff were extremely helpful and virtually everybody there spoke fluent and clear English which helped us out a lot. We were very positive when we arrived as the weather was great and the kids were also excited about getting in to the pool after we'd settled in. Once we'd found our villa we noticed that it looked a little run down and worn, but to be honest it was very clean and the bed linen and towels were spotless. One of the main downsides was that the bathroom was downstairs, which meant the kids going up and down stairs in the relative darkness at night, which as parents, obviously didn't like.
The whole hotel is built on a very steep slope which means that there are a lot of steps to get around the place. We needed to go down three flights to get the kids to the pool and it wasn't exactly child friendly either. On the upside of this was that the views over Kyrenia were good. We were under the impression that we could travel around quite easily to get to the local amenities but this wasn't correct. Without a hire care you'll need to get taxi's to the shopping areas and to the bars and pubs. Although the children had a great time my partner and I agree that there was quite a lot of rubbish around the streets and it wasn't as clean as we had expected it to be. We got a good deal and saved some cash, but if I was paying full price for a family holiday I would consider somewhere else next time.
Liked — Good weather, clean villa
Disliked — poor access – steps, isolated location, rubbish
