Bellapais Monastery Village Review - 34 of 65 Reviews

We have just returned from a lovely weeks holiday at the Bellapais Monastery Village. We arrived in a thunderstorm and were initially given a hotel room although had booked a villa. The hotel were happy for us to move and we had a villa overlooking the pool and with far reaching views over the countryside to the sea. The only criticism of our room was that it absolutely stank of smoke, the cleaners had tried to mask this with strong smelling cleaning products but the smell was overpowering and we had to go out and buy air fresheners - the smell was in the furnishings and hit you every time you went in. After a few days and with lots of ventilation the smell reduced significantly - we could have complained but had already asked for a different room and didnt want to make a fuss. I dont think the hotel could have done much to reduce the smell and could not be held responsible for whoever had smoked so heavily in there before us. The room with the bed on the mezannine floor was excellent, spacious and complete with everything that could be required. Lovely hot shower and the addition of toiletries was appreciated. I had taken tea and coffee with me so didnt use those provided and never use items from mini bars. The cleaning lady was excellent - she did a thorough job and was always cheerful - clean towels every day and sheets changed every two days. We were on B & B basis but did eat in the restaurant on four occasions - excellent well prepared food although very English, apart from the Turkish evening, when there was a singer too. We didnt swim in the pool but did sit on the top terrace and were disappointed in the condition of the tables and chairs - all wood and in need of painting or replacing. The condition of these detracted from the overal high standard of the hotel. We would recommend this hotel and its locaion, but feel that a car is desirable - we had a hire car and could go into Kyrenia to eat in the evenings.
