Altinkaya Holiday Village Review - 7 of 50 Reviews

We stayed at the Altinkaya Holiday Village for a week recently and were given one of the studio rooms across from the main hotel. We found these to be quite nice and we were very pleased with the accommodations. There are 12 of these apartments situated around a pool, which was very peaceful and more or less out of the way of the majority of the guests, as most stay in the main hotel.

We were less pleased with the quality of the food. Breakfasts were okay, but I was quite disappointed in the dinners. The first night, our food appeared to have sat awhile before being served to us, as it was more cold than hot and the fish was rubbery. Not a good start to our vacation! However, we feel that everyplace deserves a second chance, plus with the hotel being a good distance out of town and not convenient to other restaurants, we hoped the food would improve on our second night. However, we were disappointed again. Most nights, in fact, the food was bland and rather tasteless. The waiting staff were wonderful and they shouldn't be faulted at all, as we received great service during our entire stay; however if I were planning another visit here, I'd want a car rental included in the cost up front, as you really need one in order to get to town and to other restaurants.

The bar across from the Altinkaya hotel was one of our hangouts during our stay here, and we found that they serve some delicious snack foods, so we began eating there instead. We preferred the yummy appetizers over the cold, bland meals the hotel dining room serves. The guy who runs the place is very friendly also, and we enjoyed our time spent there.

The hotel is located on a main thoroughfare, so traffic is heavy all the time, making for quite a bit of noise throughout the night. We weren't bothered but then again, we're heavy sleepers. We talked to some other guests who were having problems sleeping, so if you're a light sleeper, this might not be a good hotel for you. Other than the food, everything else was okay. There's a bus that runs into town 3 times a day for sightseeing. Next time we visit north cyprus though, we'll rent a car.
