This is a hotel review for Vouni Palace Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“Vouni Palace Hotel”
My husband and I spent a couple of weeks in the northern cyprus region late in May. This was our first visit and stayed at the Vouni Palace Hotel. I was a little disappointed. Since we were here for a couple of weeks, I expected there to be some kind of entertainment going on at least occasionally but not once during our entire stay was there any type of entertainment or anything for the guests to enjoy. A staff member introduced himself to us (on the day we departed) as the entertainment manager and explained that because it was off season, there was only occasional entertainment up until May, which begins the busy time of year. Maybe in the summer months, it might be more interesting but our stay wasn't as much fun as I'd hoped. There were only perhaps 50 guests total at the hotel, most of whom were in groups and were a little older (senior citizens, mostly) and didn't seem to require anything more than conversation with each other.
The only type of entertainment in the immediate vicinity of the Vouni palace hotel was a casino, which we did visit some. We also wanted to do some local sightseeing but found it harder to do than we'd expected. Although taxis are cheap and there's a free shuttle into Kyrenia courtesy of the hotel, we really prefer to walk around and do our sightseeing on foot; however we found this almost impossible to do in this area. The roads are narrow, pot-holed and very busy, with lots of traffic. It isn't really safe to walk due to the high traffic volume, plus most of the land bordering the hotel is privately owned and we couldn't gain access to a beach, which we were hoping to do. The best way to sightsee here is to rent a car. Still, you can't find many places to park and walk, or to stop for pictures. There's lots of construction going on also, making it seem noisier than usual. It seems that much of the land around in this area is being developed and construction crews are everywhere. It definitely takes away from the peaceful atmosphere you expect from such a beautiful area.
I doubt we'll stay here again, but if we do, it will be only a short stay. You can see pretty much everything within 3 or 4 days, so if you are planning a longer vacation, it would be a good idea to check out someplace with more to offer.
