This is a hotel review for Vouni Palace Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“Not pretty but comfortable”
From the outside the Vuoni/Vuni (depends on who you book with as to what the name is!!) looks a bit of a faceless block, and even from the pool area it looks more like offices than a hotel. However, my office block certainly hasn't got a view like the one from the sea jetty, miles of uninterrupted Mediterranean Sea!
Inside, the lobby decor is designer chic, all square sofas and dangly crystals at the bar area, but actually the whole effect is remarkably welcoming. it's like a intimidating 'celeb' restaurant where everyone turns out to be really friendly and the food is brilliant! Our bedroom followed the same style, with lots of browns and soft beiges, and although it wasn't very big, the balcony with sea views more than compensated. The air con unit was by the window, which seemed odd, and meant one double bed was freezing, while the other was just right!
The open buffet is beautifully arranged and freshly made, so no curled lettuce or dried out tomatoes here. The pool bar was convenient for lunch, if not as good food as at breakfast. We made the mistake of ordering wine with dinner the first night, nearly choked at the price (35ytl a bottle) and drank beer after that.
The staff were polite, but there was a conference on two days, which seemed to suck all the staff out of the hotel for hours on end.
Liked — views over the seas
Disliked — wine prices
