I enjoyed a stay at the Top Set Hotel in June 2009. We flew in via Larnaca from where we were transferred by mini-bus via the border crossing to the hotel. Journey took about 80 minutes.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and airconditioning was welcome as there was a heat wave, even by Cypriot standards, during our visit. Satellite TV shows BBC World News. Breakfast is adequate but not one of the hotel's highlights. There's a continental selection, the best bit being the lovely fresh bread which can be freshly toasted on request. Eggs alternated between hard-boiled and scrambled. There's some uninspiring cheeses, spam (!), yoghurt, cereal.

We stayed half-board. Eating on the open-air terrace between the pool and the ocean was a pleasant experience. The food was reasonably good. Excellent homemade soup followed by a buffet salad, main course and desert, all of which were freshly prepared/cooked. The only down side being there is only one main course which varied each evening - grilled fish, moussaka, stuffed chicken, barbecued chicken kebab etc. One evening we weren't keen on the main course and were offered an omelette instead which was satisfactory. The pool area is excellent - clean and well thought-out with some interesting decorative shrubs etc. The pool itself is easily large enough for a small family run hotel and there is a seperate children's pool. Plenty of sunloungers and parasols surround the pool.

Girne/Kyrenia has a wonderful old harbour and castle, plenty of restaurants serving fresh fish and a wide choice of boats to sail on during the day or evening.

Would probably visit again but after a little reserach would book the flight and hotel separately and save some £££. The hotel can arrange for a private transfer from Larnaca or Ercan airports for a fee.
