Ship Inn Hotel Review - 12 of 40 Reviews

I took my husband for a 10-day stay at the Ship Inn for his birthday this year. We don't have a massive amount of disposable income, but I didn't want a bargain basement hotel and the Ship offered a nice middle-ground between cheap and extravagant.

The accommodation itself is fantastic compared with other hotel's offerings in this price range - which is one of the reasons it was recommended by gonorthcyprus travel company. The décor might be a little dated, but it was bright and airy in our room (two things we feel are important in warmer climes) and, crucially, clean as a whistle. The view from the balcony was a nice surprise, too. The rooms come complete with a refrigerator, hair dryer, television and kettle as standard- none of which were particularly state-of-the-art, but they all worked perfectly.

The food was inconsistent. At its best, it was nicely presented and a good representation of local cuisine, but at its worst it was stale and decidedly unimaginative. We noted that the more people that were eating at any one time, the better the quality of the food became. It was a little disappointing that the standards were not maintained when there were only a few of us present.

The pool area has some issues as well. The main pool isn't kept as clean as we would have liked- bearing in mind the masses of insects that converge on sunbathers in Cyprus- and the hot-tub was closed for our entire stay. The showers worked intermittently, but again inconsistency was a real problem.

Whilst we enjoyed our stay and recognised the effort that the staff went to to make us feel at home, the management at the Ship really need to iron out some of the kinks in the hotel if they want to reach capacity. There's potential here for a great hotel, it would be a shame if it went to waste.
