Savoy Ottoman Palace Hotel Review - 23 of 35 Reviews

My wife and I were lucky to have received a stay at the Savoy Ottoman Palace from our family for our 50th wedding anniversary. We love sun holidays and had never been to North Cyprus before. We were so chuffed when we opened the present and although we had a wonderful stay, I think if my family had known that the hotel wasn't like a normal 5 star, they would have been disappointed because I know they'd paid a lot of money.

The décor in the hotel did shout out luxury. It was covered in marble and the rooms were decorated in opulent blacks and golds. The air conditioning in the hotel was also excellent so we couldn't complain there.

What let it down was the lack of the extra finishing touches you'd expect from a five star hotel. For example, the staff weren't over-friendly and didn't go out of their way to help you. We found it difficult to order tea in the morning for example. The room was also quite compact and my wife and I do like enough space to potter around. I also love a full English breakfast and although I had perfectly good eggs cooked to order, there were things missing, such as bacon.

The hotel is very clean and well-equipped. Although we didn't use the hotel pool, it looked very nice. We did also venture into the casino on one of the nights and had a thoroughly good time!

The hotel is in an ideal location, being in the heart of the town. This was a huge plus point because it meant that we didn't have to walk or travel too far. We found the whole Kyrenia area absolutely beautiful, especially its interesting history and architecture.

The Savoy Ottoman Hotel was a perfectly acceptable hotel but I feel that it shouldn't market itself as a five star resort. It would be much better off being a really good example of a four star.
