My husband and I visited North Cyprus and stayed at Sammy's Hotel for a few days awhile back and unfortunately we were disappointed in the service. Perhaps because there were only about four couples (including ourselves) staying in the hotel at the time, they became lax, but still I would have thought that with fewer people, they would have more time to devote to customer service.

First of all, upon check-in we discovered they had lost our reservation; however because they had plenty of rooms, this wasn't an issue. Our room was clean and very nice but the shower was broken. My husband fixed it and again, we saw no real issue. The thing that did become an issue was when we discovered that our mini-fridge wasn't working. We called to complain but nothing was done about it. With all the available rooms, it should have been an easy matter to switch it out with one that worked, but no one bothered. It never got fixed during our entire stay. The food in the northern cyprus is normally good but the hotel dining room at Sammys Hotel was rather plain and the waiter was extremely unattentive, making for an unpleasant dining experience. We always had to flag down the waiter when we needed more coffee, bread, butter, etc.. Needless to say, I'm unimpressed with most of the hotel staff.

The one exception was the bartender. Umit was very polite and friendly, engaging us in conversation during our visits to the hotel bar. He was attentive, making sure we had fresh drinks in front of us at all times. His attitude is the only thing that saved us from a completely miserable experience. The location of Sammy's Hotel is perfect, with good access to town and the rooms were clean and comfortable. But the service left a lot to be desired and I doubt we'll be staying here again, there are plenty of other hotels in North Cyprus to try.
