Sammy's is a small, family-run hotel that has a lot of loyal guests who return year after year, which can make newbies like us feel like we've just walked into a club we're not a member of... yet! The hotel wouldn't win any design awards either, being a pretty faceless white box, but makes up for it in other ways.

Our room at Sammy's was quite big, clean, had a fridge - good for storing cold drinks - and reasonably efficient air con. Nice little balcony too, and a sofa for slobbing out, although I gather we got a good room and others were on the small side. The staff all spoke good English and were helpful both at check-in and when we wanted to drive to a fairly obscure ruined church on the Karpaz Peninsula. (Don't ask... girlfriend's idea.)

Hotel pool was clean and warm, and not completely full of kids, so you could both swim and sunbathe in relative peace. Breakfast was good but tended to run out after 10am. Drinks were reasonably priced so you didn't need to go out of the hotel to drink. Having said that, it was an easy walk down to the harbour area where there were some great little local bars and super seafood restaurants, although the prices did reflect the desirable waterside location.

Sammy's is a hotel that wants you to feel welcome, but can overdo it. If you want anonymity and to mind your own business, the jolly almost holiday camp feel could be overbearing, but we found it more endearing than annoying.
