“Pros and cons of the Rocks Hotel, North Cyprus”

I visited Kyrenia to meet up with my close friend who moved to Northern Cyprus about 2 years ago on promotion from a business in London. Each year we try to meet up a week or so before Christmas and this year it was my turn to go to her. I had until this point, never visited North Cyprus before so I had no idea about which hotels to look for and more importantly, which hotels to avoid! I looked online and discovered a company called northcyprushotels.co.uk who offered reviews of a range of north cyprus hotels. One that caught my eye was the Rocks hotel. I booked in and jumped on my flight over. The hotel looked great and I have a lot of positives to mention!

My room was just a standard, nothing special booked, but the size was generous and the décor pleasantly presented. The beds seemed oversized and were really comfortable too. I had a few nights great sleep here and couldn't fault it. I obviously ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant and it was oversized to say the least! I'm surprised the hotel can make any money with so much served for breakfast! I didnt get the chance to try the pool but it did look clean and cared for.

On the flip side, it's only fair to point out any negatives, so it's important that I explain that the staff were not unfriendly per se, but very clinically cool and uninviting. I'm not sure that many of them had a great grasp of the English language. Secondly, while the décor was decent in the room, I did notice a pretty poor job had been done in the communal areas such as the entrance. Perhaps a rush job in advance of the past summer season maybe. I'm not sure many would notice this but as I am being picky I thought I'd be transparent. That said, the price was really competitive and I'm not sure you'd get much more for the same cost bracket. It's advertised as a 5 star hotel but I'd say it's probably closer to a 3.5/4 star hotel.
