This may sound strange but I really wanted to write a positive review here. This is the third trip my brother, his wife and I have had to Northern Cyprus and the second time we've stayed at the Rocks Hotel. The previous occasions were just great. We went to visit family and had a whale of a time in North Cyprus and quite enjoyed the hotel too. However this time wasn't anything like the previous visit and has prompted me to write this review. We first arrived and tried to check in after a long journey but we were bluntly told the rooms were still being cleaned. We weren't early so I'm surprised at having to wait, I'd have considered rooms being ready to be a given. Our journey had been long and hot so we really wanted to get in, showered and changed as soon as possible. The receptionist didn't seem to be in any hurry.

We had booked for two non-smoking rooms and once we were eventually allowed in, it was clear that my room wasn't non smoking at all. It had a musty tobacco smell to it. I spoke to a member of staff who assured me it was non smoking and that a previous visitor must have been smoking in there. I find this hard to believe but anyhow, I was moved to a much nicer room down the hall.

One of the biggest differences between this time and last time was the staff attitude towards us. They seemed really stand offish and at times, rude. Last time they were polite, pleasant and helpful. It was such a difference! Im not sure why, perhaps summer staff or temps? Outside there's a cafe which serves great food. I have to say the restaurant in the Hotel is fantastic and does a great job. This is one of the major plus points if you ask me! Change the staff and this would be a very inviting place.
