“Big thumbs up for the Palm Beach Hotel in Northern Cyprus”
I've just returned from a surprise break away that my partner arranged for me after a particularly bad few months with family issues and illness. He's been to the hotel before on three occasions with business trips to Northern Cyprus and thought highly of it, so he booked us into the Palm Beach Hotel for a romantic break. Even though he knew where he wanted to stay, he did still opt to use the services of a booking agent we've been with in the past, as they've really taken the stress out of the logistics side of things (the company we used was www.GoNorthCyprus.com) Their representative 'Mandy' told my partner that the hotel may seem a little different after it had undergone a major refurbishment and the tail end of last year, so it was interesting to see how he thought it compared.
Our transfers from the airport had been pre-arranged by the booking company and for somebody who hates flying, I actually found it a rather pleasant experience. My first impressions upon arrival were that the Palm Beach Hotel was a new establishment – bright, airy, relaxed and with a professional feel to it, however my partner said while the overhaul had been substantial, they appeared to have kept the same layout and design, just freshened and renewed everything. Either way, it looked great and I was more than happy.
We stayed in what could only be described as a standard room, however no expense had been spared ensuring at least everything we needed was there. It was spacious as far as hotel rooms go and the bed was comfortable and sheets very clean and fresh – obviously a really important thing for a guest to know. We'd only come out for a few nights as a relaxation getaway, so we were unsure if we should eat in or try the local offerings, however after seeing how well presented breakfast was, we decided to give the restaurant a visit at night and thankfully we were not let down! The food was delicious, and hot. There's always the worry when eating abroad that the food might not be cooked properly or may have been standing for a while, but this wasn't the case at all here. Restaurant staff were polite and efficient, I'm unsure of any suggested improvement I could give!
If I was to have to find fault with the Palm Beach Hotel it would be from an arrogant 'brit abroad' viewpoint and be that not all of the staff here spoke English well. That's not to say they weren't helpful or pleasant, just that it was a little tricky on occasion to make enquiries.
Liked — A professional and well run hotel
Disliked — Some staff struggled with language barrier
