Olive Tree Hotel Review - 2 of 14 Reviews

I took my family to the Dedeman Olive Tree in Kyrenia for a week in June 2009. It was a return visit for me, as I had already been there alone for a few nights in May 2002. I immediately became besotted with the place- even moreso now that travel arrangements are easier to make on the Turkish side of Cyprus. Today, all is much simpler and we could easily fly to Larnaca, rent a car (or catch a taxi) and drive over to Kyrenia.

When I last visited, the Olive Tree held the record for the largest pool in Northern Cyprus and whilst I'm unsure if that record still stands it is certainly an enormous pool which easily caters for the hotels guests. Since 2002, they have added a fitness center with massage rooms, and a casino!

The two suits we had booked were next door to each other, and upon checking in we immediately noticed the friendly, helpful manner of the hotel staff. We received plenty of free drinks (they "forgot" on purpose to charge them to the rooms), the rooms were always very clean, and the food was always excellent. The food (which is in buffet form) changes daily, although on extended stays you may well encounter the same selection a few times. We also received 400 free tokens to use at the casino, which was a great way to spend an evening without the risk of losing our spending money. A free pool table next to the restaurant helped us to improve our playing techniques.

Even though the hotel is a little remote (8 km from Kyrenia, in Catalkoy), a free shuttle is available to take you into the town centre. However, a rental car is your best bet on this island, and plenty of parking spaces are available.
