“Good hotel with Turkish flavours”
What a difference a day makes at the Mercure. Thursday - peaceful, quiet, uncrowded, until Friday night when a conference crowd arrived. From then on, the restaurants and bars packed, noisy chats in the corridors until late, etc. Also, local families can come in during the weekend to use the pool, but since we went early in the season, this wasn't a problem. Sunday evening, the conference delegates all went home again. Monday - quiet, peaceful, uncrowded...
Having got that off my chest, I think all that corporate trade is actually good for us tourists. Our rooms were bright, with newly decorated and well furnished, with a sea view. Bathroom was a decent size and sparkling clean. Breakfast was a vast buffet, catering for Turkish tastes, so not a sausage or baked bean in sight - hoorah! Staff were friendly and attentive when the conference folks were busy conferencing, but somewhat stretched at meal times, so we ate out Saturday and Sunday evenings at local restaurants instead. This was a good move - cheaper, faster service and overall better food, if not as fancy. Local tavern Kervan was particularly good.
So, overall a good quality hotel which, like so many others around the world, needs to make money from meetings all year round. Bear that in mind and you'll have a great stay at the Mercure.
