This is a hotel review for Merit Park Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“This year is was the Mercure Hotel!”
The Mecure is the name of the latest hotel to be my home away from home whilst staying in Northern Cyprus. I have previously booked my trips through a company called gonorthcyprus and have really found the service to be great, so thought i'd do the same again but choose a different hotel. I tend to go once a year (alone, more often than not because the children have moved away from home and my wife despises the heat) to let off some steam and enjoy a cocktail or three. I've been doing this for around ten years now, and I've stayed at a different hotel every year.
The Mercure comes in at the top end of this list, in terms of overall quality. It is advertised as a “casino resort”, which may have some negative connotations for some potential visitors but rest assured that I found it (for me at least) free from the tackiness associated with a casino environment. It has a fantastic sea-view from (I presume) all of the hotel's rooms thanks to its position atop a small cliff, along with a well stocked bar (with internationally-branded liquor, unlike some of the places I've stayed) and an above average standard of food (I went full-board on this occasion, so I wasn't able to compare it with local cuisine on a like-for-like basis). Where the rooms are concerned, there are four different types- from standard rooms to royal suites. Regardless of the room type, the Mercure apparently guarantee that yours will be equipped with a plasma screen television, a full size bath, air conditioning, a safe and a mini-bar. Mine was spotlessly clean on arrival, but I suppose that could vary. If you're a fitness freak, there is a gym on-site and jacuzzis and saunas for afterwards. I only made use of these facilities once and they seemed nice enough, but I get little enough time to relax as it is and didn't want to spend my holiday working even harder!
Liked — top quality hotel with plenty of attention to detail
Disliked — nothing to note this time
