Merit Park Hotel Review - 14 of 39 Reviews

We stayed at the Mercure Hotel recently when we took a week off in northern cyprus and very much enjoyed our stay. I'm surprised by all the bad reviews this hotel has received, as I found everything to be more than satisfactory. We went all-inclusive (full board plus) and found the food to be excellent in our opinion. Breakfast and lunch was good; dinner consisted of a huge selection of delicious food everyday. We were never bored with the food. Also, they serve either beer or wine with meals and the beverages seemed to be of good quality as well. The only negative was that the wait staff seemed a bit hurried – perhaps they were a little understaffed in that area. Still, they managed to offer service to us in a timely manner and made time to be helpful with selections. I'd rather have busy waiters and great food, than waiters with lots of time to kill and lousy food, so I'm not complaining about the Mercure Hotel food!

Our room was large and very clean. The maids came by everyday and made sure everything was cleaned on a daily basis. The balcony was small but we didn't spend much time out there so it wasn't an issue for us one bit. The pool area was inviting – very clean and well maintained as are most in northern cyprus. We loved the outside bar, although drink prices at the Mercure Hotel were a little high, as they are all over in North Cyprus. There's also access to the ocean, although not exactly a beach. There is a private deck with some lounge chairs but in order to get in the water, you have to walk down some steps that take you directly into the water. The sea here is sparkling and pristine – I could hardly wait to get in and do a little snorkeling.

For those who like to gamble, there's a casino in the basement of the hotel. It's a good value (if you don't lose too much, that is), as they bring you complimentary drinks while you are gambling. We spent a couple of nights in there playing slots.

Also, there's a small market only a 5 minute walk from the hotel and they offer beverages at significantly reduced prices over what the hotel charges. We saved money by buying most of our drinks there, although we were careful to consume them discreetly, as the hotel doesn't like you to bring outside drinks in. Still, it's well worth the trouble and the short walk there get cheaper prices on drinks.

My husband and I both agreed that this is the best hotel we've stayed at so far in North Cyprus (and this makes our third trip here) so I am happy to give this hotel a great review in order to make up for the bad reviews they have received from others. We'll definitely stay here at the Mercure hotel again the next time!
