My husband and I visited North Cyprus to celebrate our retirement, and I can highly recommend both the town and the hotel. We splashed out on this hotel and it was worth every penny. The locality was brilliant, a short distance from Kyrenia town centre, but with gorgeous views.

The hotel had everything we wanted and we felt quite spoiled. I loved the Spa. The pool area is lovely but was busy a couple of times when there was a wedding in the hotel. There was a nice jazz bar and the waiters were so friendly and would suggest different cocktails which they then made for us. In fact all the staff were so nice. They didn't speak much English, but we got by!

The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. There was some local fruits and figs, toast and cold cheeses and the chefs cooked omelettes individually which were the best. There were so many restaurants to choose from that we did not eat in the restaurant, but people said it was very nice. We preferred sitting outdoors by the harbour eating fresh fish and watching the boats which made our holiday perfect.

What we liked about the hotel was that it was in a nice location out of the town. We rented a car and explored the area which was so historic and beautiful. We enjoyed some nice long walks on the beach. There are several old castles, besides the one in Kyrenia and an old shipwreck museum with a 4th century (I think!) ship inside. We loved Bellapais Abbey as well. It reminded us of the old abbey on Tresco in the Scilly Isles.

I can recommend the Hotel Malpas to anyone and if you visit you are sure to enjoy it, as we did.

Disliked — Drinks were quite expensive.
