This is a hotel review for Malpas Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“OK but a few let downs.”
Although originally I was going to be staying here with my husband, for various business reasons he was not able to come and I stayed on my own.
First impressions were good, check in was swift and easy and the hotel lobby was nice.
First impressions of the room were good although as the balcony had been left open the room was hot and took a long time to cool down as the air conditioning was in my opinion not functioning properly - to be fair to the hotel I didn't complain so they may well have been able to do something about it.
To have no tea and coffee facilities in a 5 star hotel was not expected and disappointing to say the least as I had even brought my own tea with me.
The mini bar was well stocked on arrival, however I had to request that items I'd consumed were replaced as 3 days later it still had not been done. As requested things were replaced, but only the once as again after I had consumed them they were not restocked.
The wifi listed in the hotel description as in room is chargeable which was not expected as previous 5 star hotels I have stayed in include it free of charge, having said that the charge was minimal. Once I had paid the charge I discovered that the wifi was not in my room, it was on the balcony and outside in the corridor but not in the room on either of my 2 devices which was frustrating.
My biggest complaint would have to be about the "shuttle bus" to Kyrenia town. In my view this would mean several trips down and back in one day, not so. Once at 10am into town and back again at 4:30pm! Similarly the bus to the hotel's beach club (very tired and neglected looking but the waiter down there was excellent) is not frequent enough at 10:30am and 1pm there and then back at 1:15pm or 5pm
Food was good but after a week became a little monotonous and boring as the same things were coming out every few evenings. The only choice for food at the hotel in the evening is the main buffet style restaurant but they do have the al la carte fish restaurant (very good) down at the beach club for which they will arrange complimentary transport for.
The outside pool is excellent as is the choice of snacks at the poolside bar.
The spa facilities are great but when I asked to book a manicure or pedicure it was not available as the therapist was on holiday until 10 days time!
Liked — Pool area
Disliked — lack of transport to town
