High Life Holiday Village Review - 1 of 22 Reviews

I am not usually a "Holiday Village" type of person, but I went with my sister and her family (2 kids under 5, and 1 long-suffering partner), which was an experience in itself! So I guess we were looking for two different types of holidays, and the High Life actually managed to make us all happy for most of the time!

Hotel room was nice if nothing special, clean and everything worked. Bit scuffed at edges, but just fine for a holiday where we spent most of our days outside.

We all were on half board and the food was good if not exceptional, and the view from the dinner terrace excellent. Kids and sister's partner loved the bbq night, which I thought was not worth the extra charge. We went out two or three nights using local taxis, as the hotel is tucked away down a dusty drive, and had the best meals of the holiday, despite having to eat early because of the kids. Without exception, the waiters were charming to the kids, which meant even when tired at the end of a hot day, they behaved really well. (The children, not the waiters!)

Kids loved the pool, and we adults enjoyed the sunloungers (with decent cushions for a change). Wasn't too impressed with the local beaches, I must say, but I gather a totally clean sandy beach in North Cyprus is hard to find unless you pay. We ended up at the Denkizi hotel's beach area, which was very nice and the kids had fun building the inevitable sand castles while we sipped cold beers.

We hired a car one day to explore the mountains, bit of a squeeze for all of us, especially on the windy roads. But the views were amazing and the woodlands were beautiful with cool shade on a scorching hot day. We bought a picnic lunch from the local shop and ate it in the ruins of an old monastery, and had it all to ourselves the entire time.

I think the High Life Village is better for families than couples, but the staff and owners were very kind, and we all had a relaxing stay overall.
