Dome Hotel Review - 3 of 93 Reviews

Staying at the Dome was like staying in an old club, all creaking floors, soft carpets, and unobtrusive staff. The Dome was the best hotel when the British ruled here - it still has that slightly musty, old fashioned feel, despite its Art Deco style curves and corners, and some of the guests looked like they had never left! However, if you book the Dome knowing that, which we did, it takes on a charm of its own.

Our room was old-fashioned but comfortable, and the bathroom clean if a little tired. A dripping tap was dealt with reasonably quickly, and an empty minibar refilled on the second morning. We heard several guests complaining about their rooms, but most seemed to be moved if they wanted to.

Breakfast was plentiful if uninspired, and the locals who came into the restaurant for dinner seemed to enjoy the food more than we did, as it was dull and not terribly good. After two nights, we went into Kyrenia and paid much the same prices for much better meals in local places. . Staff were polite but not overtly friendly, which suited us fine - we don't need to be the waiter's best pal for a week!

We hired a car from the firm opposite the hotel for a day and so enjoyed ourselves in the mountains behind Kyrenia that we hired it again the next day. The Dome's position in the heart of Kyrenia does mean you can walk to everything of note in town, not to mention the local bars which are much cheaper than the hotel, but it's also nice to escape from the noise and traffic fumes for a day or so.

The most disappointing thing was the rather abandoned look of the outside pool areas, which looked as if they had not been attended to since the summer. It let the rest of the hotel down big time.
