Dome Hotel Review - 2 of 93 Reviews

My husband and I run a family business as chartered accountants in south Wales and booked a mid year holiday to get away from the stresses of work for a week. We'd first thought about a 2 week break but decided it was too long away from the family firm, and how glad we were that we didn't. Having never visited north Cyprus before we had no idea what hotels were good and what ones were to be avoided. The local travel agent said the Dome hotel would suit a couple of professionals wanting to get away for a while and so without much more thought we booked a trip for July when we knew the weather would be good.

We arrived at the Dome Hotel around early evening and found a queue of around 20 people all waiting to be checked in. Right away we were quite surprised to see that the average age of the line in front of us was about 65. My husband said this would mean the hotel would be quite quiet at night so we didn't worry. A big disappointment was the state of the interior. The hotel was built way back in the 30's and it didn't look like it had changed since. It was dark, dull and in a bad state of disrepair. Our room wasn't much better, with very dated wall coverings which wouldn't have looked out of place in on the Titanic.

It was soon very obvious that the Dome was regular spot for OAP coach parties, and was geared towards that very market at all levels. The staff weren't particularly helpful and my husband especially felt the impression that we weren't very welcome at all. I also didn't particularly like the idea of being the only couple in the ancient restaurant that didn't serve in the war. For the older generation the Dome hotel obviously has some sort of appeal, but if you're looking for something for under the 60s mark, go elsewhere.
