Denizkizi Royal Hotel Review - 6 of 44 Reviews
This is a hotel review for Denizkizi Royal Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“Good Value-for-Money Beach-Front Hotel”
We stayed in the 3-star Denizkizi, not the 4-star Denizkizi Royal, perpendicular to it.
We stayed in room 301 - a small room with no balcony. (At Denizkizi, there is actually no need for a balcony room because balconies are very small and useful only for airing laundry.) Although the room was small, it was well appointed and I really thank GoNorthCyprus for finding me accommodation with just 3 day's notice.
The property is attractive. The beachfront is located in a crescent-shaped cove and is private although not limited to hotel guests; anyone can pay to get access. In your absence. therefore, your girlfriend can get chatted up.
I found the food and room-service to be a negative. The breakfast is simple and monotonous; with day-to-day no variety; after three breakfasts, I couldn't bear to eat there. Likewise, there are no a la carte dinners; we tried exploring some local alternatives nearby the hotel but we found the food on offer to be of poor standard. We found that self-catering at the nearby Isele supermarket (go to main road, turn right cross street, walk 300 meters) was the best local option. We requested ice several times for driinks in the room and were charged two Turkish liras by roomservice for a small quantity of ice in a bucket. I've never been charged before for ice. I think that they should discover the technology of ice machines.
I did like the "lamb in the well" (which is only available on Sundays) and I even took seconds on it although the meat was a little bit dry. The lamb was the only good meal I ate in North Cyrpus. It may be the best option is to take the bus to Girne and eat in town (assuming that there are good restaurants there).
Location is a mixed-bag. The actual area around the hotel is pretty dead and uninteresting but the ride to Girne only takes about 20 minutes.
The staff are friendly and helpful. No one said anything when we brought in water and foodstuffs we purchased at the nearby grocery. (Some of the North Cyprus hotels have Security that prevent guests from taking in groceries. That was not the case at Denizkizi and I would not stay in a hotel that treats groceries as contraband.)
Liked — beach
Disliked — poor room service & monotonous/mediocre food options
