This is a hotel review for Cratos Premium Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“Luxurious but a lot to learn”
We had a great holiday in July at the Cratos. However, when we arrived no one came to get our cases so we were left to find out own way to the reception desk. Not what you expect from a luxury hotel. However the lobby is really beautiful and our room was very nice but certainly not luxurious, with a sea view and a great view of the sunsets in the evening.
We really enjoyed the food ( we were half board) and we ate at the Port a couple of times too which was good but the main dining room closed at 9.30pm which we found a bit odd.
Many of the staff were really great, very friendly and helpful. Others couldn't care less and completely ignored us. They have a big staff training issue here.
We enjoyed the casino and came away in profit which was great. There is a lot of live entertainment but it is all in Turkish. The hotel is geared primarily to Turkish and eastern European guests. We did not speak to another English speaking guest while we were there. We also felt a bit too old for the hotel which seems to attract a younger crowd.
The pool is very large and there is no problem getting a sunbed because everyone seemed to rise later than us probably because of all the evening entertainment. Service at the pool bar was poor. Unless you demand service, you are just ignored. Young girls in swimsuits came round periodically offering various cocktails. They usually offered them to young men and ignored us. They did not seem to speak English. There is not really enough information about the hotel eg do you pay for the evening entertainment or is it free. They could use their TV channel for this. The drinks were very expensive so buy some in Kyrenia or at the supermarket next door. There are tea and coffee making facilities but they charge you £2 for one tea bag! This would be free in a bed and breakfast costing £30 per night in Scotland so we found this unacceptable.
We hired a car and it was brought to the hotel and we just dropped off the keys at reception when we were finished. The hotel is just back from the main road so travelling round the island was easy on the new roads. Although we had a great holiday, it wasn't the luxurious experience we thought it was going to be and it's a bit further from Kyrenia than we really wanted. I think they have a lot to learn about providing a five star experience.
Liked — Lobby Area
Disliked — It was geared to a young Turkish crowd
