This is a hotel review for Colony Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“A family holiday in Kyrenia”
We visited Kyrenia with our two young children, aged 6 and 4 and stayed at the Colony Hotel. The first thing I have to say is the staff absolutely loved the children and could not have made us more welcome.
The room was really nice and well furnished. We went up to the rooftop pool and it had the most gorgeous views of the town and harbour. There was also a really nice bar which did snacks for us and the girls which were delicious, and they always remembered what we had to drink – very professional.
However the hotel was a bad choice for us as it is on a busy street. Although the harbour was within sight of the hotel, we had to get a shuttle bus to go to the beach with the children, which was quite a performance. Our fault – we should have booked a nondescript chain hotel on the beach with a kids club, but we wanted to experience a little of the 'real' Cyprus, which we did. August is also very hot, but up by the pool there was always a breeze which was very necessary! Kyrenia is a touristy town with plenty of bars and restaurants and some nice local shops, but there is not much to do, especially for families.
Anyway, the hotel is great for couples and is right next door to a casino which was not a problem at any time. The hotel was spotlessly clean, and although not the Ritz, was very elegant and definitely 5-star for North Cyprus.
Liked — husband and children, 6 and 4
Disliked — Really not suitable for children
