Colony Hotel Review - 10 of 98 Reviews

We had difficulty choosing a hotel for our New Year break in Kyrenia, but eventually we decided on the Colony, and we're glad we did. My husband and I travel a lot for business, so we like to check in and chill out with a minimum of fuss. The Colony rooms are furnished in international business style, which for me is home from home, but does ensure you get a comfortable bed, decent bathroom and tv (if your Turkish is good!). We upgraded to a Residence Suite, which gave us more elbow room and a nice sofa to relax on, a useful space in the chillier winter months but probably not necessary in summer months.

Tourist hotels in winter can be soulless places, but we enjoyed the combination of friendly staff and quiet atmosphere, that made it feel as if the Colony was all ours. The lounge had a roaring fire, a welcome sight at the end of a day's beach walking. Service in the main restaurant was leisurely but hey, we weren't on business so we weren't in a rush.

I very much enjoyed a proper deep tissue massage, and spent several hours destressing in the steam room and sauna. (The outside pool was only for the foolish in January!)

Kyrenia was remarkably busy in January, and my worries about not finding local restaurants open unfounded (mainly). For us, car hire was a must, and I adored discovering Famagusta's old centre without the tourists, and strolling around ancient Salamis totally on our own.

Next time, we'll try North Cyprus in the summer, and we'll be happy to stay at the Colony again.
