Citrus Tree Gardens Review - 8 of 29 Reviews

My husband and I visited north cyprus and stayed at Citrus Tree Gardens recently and I was very disappointed. We'd booked this vacation through a travel agency, who recommended it, making it doubly disappointing, as naturally I expected them to recommend a nicer place.

When we saw the inside of our mini-villa, I was appalled at the shabbiness of it. The rugs and furniture were dingy and dirty and everything badly needed a good steam cleaning. Better yet, some things needed to be thrown out and replaced with new, such as throw rugs, pillows and towels. The sheets and pillowcases were clean but the pillows were badly stained. Even with clean pillowcases, I don't like to lay my head on a stained or dirty pillow. The towels were so thin you could almost see through them and all were a dingy gray color. And the throw rugs obviously hadn't seen the inside of a washing machine in months. Not only that, but our villa wasn't cleaned very well during our stay. Sometimes we got maid service and sometimes we didn't. Clean towels were scarce at times also. In addition, the air conditioning unit was directly over the bed, which wasn't ideal. The whole place badly needs a makeover.

On the upside, the staff was friendly and tried to be helpful during those times when we asked for assistance with something or other. Also the breakfasts were really good and the food was freshly prepared and quite tasty. We ate at other northern cyprus restaurants for lunch and dinner usually, so we didn't eat anything other than breakfast at the hotel, but if the other meals are anything like the breakfasts, they're delicious.

The pool was pretty nice and appeared to be really clean. Also they provide towels for use at the pool, which are nicer than the ones that come in the rooms, so if you run out of clean towels in your villa, you can always get some from the pool.

The shabbiness and general neglect of cleanliness in our villa was definitely this hotel's worst flaw. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay. We met lots of nice people, some who say they return year after year. The staff is friendly, food is great, and location is good. If they ever decide to revamp the villas, we'll be back.
