My partner and I loved the idea of the exclusivity of a boutique hotel and the British Hotel didn't disappoint. Being small and fairly reasonable we knew that it wouldn't be film star quality but it really was everything we expected and perhaps more.

We never felt crowded at the hotel and really felt like we were truly somewhere else. So many times you book into these large chain hotels and feel like you are on a conveyor belt holiday. This was completely the opposite. The hotel offered friendly staff whose attention to detail was very good and because there weren't hundreds of guests, it was very peaceful and exclusive. The only thing that disturbed the peace was the occasional party on the harbour, but this didn't really bother us.

The rooms were well equipped with facilities such as: a mini bar, tea and coffee (although you had to pay for this). The rooms were also well kept and very clean. The food was traditional and of good quality but we were inclined to venture out a lot to sample the local restaurants as they served superb local dishes in a very traditional environment.

The area surrounding the hotel was beautiful and full of history and the views were breath-taking. We really liked the fact that the hotel had an old fashioned feel- it wasn't ultra modern and had great character. I think what really made our holiday was the location of the hotel, we could not have wished for better views and we came away really feeling like we'd sampled life in Kyrenia.
