“Not the best trip to the Bogaz Hotel”
I have to say that it was a relief to return from the Bogaz Hotel. An experience it was, but certainly not a good one! My wife and I were aware that we had paid to stay in a 3 star hotel, I guess you really want to stay in a 4 or 5 star given the choice, but our trip was a last minute 'we need a holiday' getaway so we couldn't afford to be picky. However, saying that, if you stayed in a 3 star hotel in the UK you would still expect the hotel to be in a good state of repair and certainly clean. The Bogaz did not meet these standards!
We arrived late so didn't really have a chance to explore the hotel on arrival and nor did we really take time to have a proper look at our hotel. Our first agenda was to get a good night's sleep, but this is where the problems started. Our beds were floor level. Now I know that this is often a modern design feature but the fact that they looked old made us believe that the beds were on the floor for a different reason. In the light of day, things did not appear more rosey. Our room was 'shabby' and clearly needed updating. To add to this, the handle on the door was broken, which we both felt was a safety issue! We consulted our rep about our concerns but were reassured that this was to be expected from a typical Turkish style hotel. Although disappointed, we didn't persue the matter and stayed put, hoping that there may be some redeeming features.
I guess if you compared the state of the room to the food you could call the restaurant 'good' but if we'd been in a better hotel we would probably have deemed it just about acceptable. The one thing we liked the idea of when we saw the hotel on the internet was the hotel bar but this seemed to be out of action and certainly not in a fit state to offer a service to customers!
Needless to say, we spent most of our time outside of the hotel. However the surrounding area wasn't up to much and little to offer in the way of decent restaurants and bars. I suppose we did want a relaxing holiday and had the hotel been pleasant we would've welcomed the fact that the place was quiet. However, since we were so eager to stay out, we felt disappointed. The Bogaz has potential but is a long way from being a hotel we'd ever want to recommend.
