Bellapais Monastery Village Review - 49 of 65 Reviews

We flew via Larnaca and due to a 90 minute flight delay arrived at the hotel at about midnight, however the taxi pick up was fine and the connection only took about an hour as there was little traffic. Taxi journey back to airport was also on time. Reception was efficient and although our room (2040) was like a furnace on entry, the air con was very good and got the temperature down in about 10 minutes. With the minibar prices being very reasonable (less than the bar!) we just had a beer sat outside . We had a villa room which is actually a mezzanine bedroom with everything else downstairs, built on a slope it was good and clean, the TV was a bit antiquated, but who watches much TV on holiday.

As common in Turkey, all drinks, water, meals etc are paid via "tab" which you settle up at the end. I kept all the slips and the end bill was exactly as I thought, so no need to worry.

Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of hot & cold food and friendly staff and the evening food was good on the night we stayed in. Kyrenia has many restaurants especially around the port area and Bellapais some too, but Bellapais is not really walkable, being about 2 miles up a long drag. Places like Bella Moon, which is a terrific Bellapais restaurant, will pick you up & drop you back or a taxi to Kyrenia is only about 15 lira each way (£4.50). The Hotel also did a Kleftico night which needed some entertainment, and it was too quiet, hopefully they will listen to feedback. The pool could be cooler, but you can go to the indoor one to "refresh" and there are plenty of sunbeds & brollies which with temperatures 35-40c you need. Water down at the pool is quite reasonable £1.40 for 1.5 litre + ice. All in all a very enjoyable holiday & I would quite happily recommend the hotel. Also try the Spa in the sister Hotel - Turkish bath & 1 Spa treatment each for about £120 in total - but glad we stayed where we were as Oscars is much busier. As often the case with Turkey, the best asset are the staff who are very friendly.
