This is a hotel review for Bella View Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“Comfy and quirky”
We enjoyed lots of nice touches at the Bella View Hotel, and enjoyed some of its idiosyncrasies as well! The hotel is officially a boutique hotel, which I guess allows it to be both extremely comfortable and quirky at the same time...
The hotel is halfway between Kyrenia and Bellapais, which in effect means its a long walk downhill or a steep climb uphill to get anywhere. Reception will happily order you a taxi, but don't rely on local buses - there arn't any! We hired a car for the whole holiday so we could explore, eat out anywhere we wanted, and didn't have to waste the last day in airport transfers, etc.
The Bella View hotel is small and friendly, and feels very 'grown up' thanks to the no kids under 16 rule. So, no problem finding a sun lounger by the pool, no kids splashing about all the time, and pool towels supplied - lovely.
Our room was large and comfortable, although we were disappointed that our sea view room didn't have a balcony. We had an efficient shower in the bathroom, which was a welcome surprise in Cyprus. We also were given all sorts of extras in the bathroom as you'd expect from a 5star hotel - toothpaste, shower cap, etc - but no shampoo or conditioner, which was odd. Likewise the hotel supplies a kettle, cups and eat - but no milk. And don't try and stock up the minibar with your own supplies - this is a big no-no and earned us a (mild) reprimand.
Breakfast was great, and the a la carte menu at dinner was good, but some guests said that their standard meals (part of a half board deal) were a bit repetitive. We went b&b, and with a car were able to eat out in non-tourist places in and around Kyrenia, which is fine so long as one of you doesn't mind not drinking and driving home up the mountain road! (If you do mind, get a taxi, they are not expensive.) There are restaurants in Bellapais too who will come and fetch you from the hotel if you book in advance. (We only found this out on the last night!)
Overall, a relaxing holiday in a nice hotel with good views, and a few quirks to make the postcards home more interesting!
Liked — good service
Disliked — not being able to keep our beers in the minibar...
