“Bad bungalows, good holiday”
We booked a bungalow at the Altinkaya Holiday Village for one week, and were disappointed to find it was in dire need of renovation. Our bathroom had a leaking tap, a shower that had two settings, boiling or freezing, and cracked tiling that we actually taped up for safety. The bungalow itself was kept nice and clean, but the furnishing were beginning to fray. After asking around, it seemed that most bungalows were like this, and since our air conditioning worked well we decided to stay put rather than demand to be moved, as many others did.
The actual village had most of what we needed for a family holiday with children. The outdoor pool was well maintained and clean, and the children enjoyed making new friends there. I could have lived without the kareoke night at the restaurant, but others enjoyed it.
We didn't have a hire car but it didn't matter too much. We took the courtesy bus down to Kyrenia, and the local restaurants in Bellapais village in the mountains offered free transport so we ate there two or three nights. The local deli does good sandwiches and we bought drinks from the supermarket as they were much cheaper than at the hotel.
Liked — pool, location
Disliked — bathroom, tired bungalow, drinks prices
