North Cyprus - what a wonderful place to spend half term! The staff at the Almond Holiday village welcomed all our family, ages 3 to 11 plus frazzled parents, and made us feel right at home. With temperatures in the mids 20s, the kids could splash in the pools to their heart's content, and we could just lie back and remind ourselves what warm sunshine felt like!

Our 2 bed bungalow was a bit of a squeeze with the little one in with us, but we did have plenty of living space and a kitchen that was small but had everything we needed for very simple self catering. We spilled out onto the terrace most days, and enjoyed drinks outsideuntil late too. Best of all, the villa was cleaned to an inch of its life when we arrived, and the maid worked hard to undo the mess my kids made in the 23 hours in between visits!

The Almond Village restaurant food was very tasty, freshly cooked (no bug-ridden running buffet here) and the kids enjoyed every meal they ate there - amazing! We went out to eat a couple of times in Alsancak and Kyrenia, but really the food in the Almond restaurant was better and cheaper than at the Kyrenia harbourside. The Almond has a clever arrangement for us self-catering lot, with a side entrance that means you don't carry your own food through the whole hotel. Other North Cyprus hotels apparently confiscate any food or drink you bring in!!!

At the end of our week in the sun, the kids were great friends with the staff and really didn't want to go back home - and neither did I! Lovely place, nice people, good weather , excellent food - what more could you ask for? Oh, and a lot cheaper than the Euro zone…
