This is a hotel review for Acapulco Beach Club Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“Five star and fab”
I chose this hotel on a recommendation from a friend who stayed there a few years ago. I think it has got bigger since then. After booking, I read some mixed reviews, and wondered what I had committed us to...but it all turned out to be lovely.
We stayed in a 'bungalow' and not the main hotel blocks, and we liked going back to our little house on its leafy pathway. There are rows and rows of bungalows but the layout is such that you don't come across your neighbours much, and there are lots of trees and greenery.
It all lived up to the best of my expectations. We were there in late October so for most of the week it wasn't that busy, or the whole site was big enough for it not to appear crowded. There was a religious festival midweek and suddenly hundreds of guest poured in. The only difference then was that the dining room became very crowded, with occasional queues for some of the freshly-cooked dishes. There were all sorts of special foods for those two nights, with carved vegetables etc on display, so it all felt very festive. The food generally was great, with plenty of non-meat choices on the buffet - all kinds of lovely salads and cheeses and mysterious local dishes.
The 'quiet' swimming pool was out of use while we were there, but very few people were using the huge main outdoor pool, because it was too cold for all but us hardy English. There is also a decent-sized heated indoor pool in the Spa/Wellness Centre. And the sea, which was warm and calm for most of the time!
I'm not sure I would want to be there at the height of the season, as I imagine it would be very busy all over the place then. However in the summer there is entertainment each day and night, for children and adults, and that wasn't happening in late October.
With most holidays I've had enough by the end of the week, but I'd have gladly stayed another few days at the Acapulco: sun, sea, swimming and good food.
Liked — Just about everything
Disliked — Guests who wasted food and children who tormented the resident cats
