This is a hotel review for Acapulco Beach Club Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“Spacious grounds, beautiful beach, but lots of walking between buildings”
Overall, it was a good holiday, but there are some reservations. Originally allocated a bungalow, we refused to stay in one and would not recommend them to anyone. They were dark, with very small shuttered windows (presumably to protect privacy as people are walking past all the time) and although situated in pleasant gardens, there was no outside personal space to sit. We were then allocated a very nice room in the Palm Court for which we had to pay a supplement, but the meals were served in a completely differerent building. As the Palm Court was situated at the top of the hill, returning to ones room after meals, meant quite a difficult uphill slog!
The meals were all buffet style. They were varied and the standard of cooking was good, but the buffet experience is not particularly pleasant with lots of people all trying to get to the food and find tables. We found the staff were pleasant, but not always quick enough to clear tables, so at peak times it was sometimes difficult to find somewhere to sit. It also meant that the meals were over quite quickly, not the same relaxing experience when being served at table.
The grounds were spacious and well kept, with lots of facilities for children. the pool was enormous with a seperate kiddies pool. The water chutes were great fun! When we went, there was no difficulty finding sunbeds and umbrellas to sit. The beach was perfect, with gently shelving sand into the sea, which was beautifully warm.
The hotel is situated some 8km outside the town of Kyrenia, and the hotel provided a shuttle bus to and from town. As we had a car, we did not use this, but heard from others that this proved very useful.
We felt that more entertainment could have been provided in the evenings, especially as there was nowhere to walk to at night. For people who were not interested in the casino, like my husband and I, there was just one terrace (or indoors when cooler) where a duo or small group played. For most of our stay (10 days) there was the same duo, a man on an organ and a female singer. They were very good, but after a few evenings listening to the same music, it got rather booring. There was an outdoor entertainment area and a couple of things were put on during our stay and there was, we understand, a nightly disco, but this catered mainly for younger people. Other than retiring to ones room to watch television, or just sitting and drinking, there was nothing else to do.
Liked — Spacious grounds
Disliked — Buffet restaurant in separate building
