“The perfect holiday location”
We stayed in a De-lux duplex at The Salamis Bay Conti Hotel. This consisted of a large living area/lounge, of which was a double bedroom; sea view balcony; stairs leading up to an on-suite bedroom with two single beds. Just off the entrance hallway was the main bathroom/toilet.
The duplex overlooked the pool and sea.
As it was only April, the sea was warm enough to swim and snorkel in. Just about a hundred meters off the beach is a rock reef, around which there are numerous fish to watch. There are gaps in the reef through which strong currents flow.
There are terraces and steps leading down to a lovely sandy beach all along the front of the hotel. The sea is shallow near the beach, but in parts is over head height or chest height near the reef.
The Restaurant nearly serves food all day, right up to midnight, only closed a couple of hours before meal times.
The standard and choice of food was superb, bearing in mind that certain meats will not be on the menu due to the Muslim religion. There is a downside to evening meal times, and that is not always being able to get a table. When we first arrived, there wasn't a problem but Germany has obviously got a tourist package system using the hotel, when they arrive en-mass. There were a lot of Germans using the hotel, and would be first in at meal times. It was often better to wait until about 7 or 8 for tables to clear.
We hired a car before leaving the UK. We only used it three times in the week we were there, once to drive to Kyrenia on the northern coast. Then a drive along the Salamis coast to the little fishing port of Bogaz. Also to see the Salamis ruins just down the road from the hotel.
All in all it is one of those holidays that you don't feel you need another holiday to get over it. Totally relaxing if you lead a stressful life. I have already recommended it to other people. Apart from evening meal times I can't fault it
