Firstly a big thank you to our booking agent Sue from Gonorthcyprus.com. Got home last week from a trip to the Arkin Palm Beach Hotel. We never went to the hotel before its reopening, but if it was anything like it is now I can definitely see why it has such a stellar reputation. We will make another booking as soon as humanly possible as I'd really like to take some of the extended family along to see the place.

The refurbishment has been carried out very professionally. If we hadn't known any different we would have thought it a brand new hotel in its entirety- there are no giveaway signs that there's even been any refurbishment done. The welcome we got from the manager at reception was very warm and we were shown to our rooms (unusual in our experience) by a very polite young guy who was pretty much our “go-to” for the rest of the trip whenever we had a question.

The room, by the way, was spotless- and larger than we expected too. For two people, there's easily enough space to stash away clothes, toiletries and whatever appliances you've brought with you (hair dryers, straighteners etc) and still be able to walk across every square inch of the floor unimpeded by obstacles. This is more than can be said for the last med hotel we stayed at.

The food is in the form of a buffet service- I know that's not everyone's ideal means of dining as it detracts slightly from the feeling of being at a 5 star venue but frankly we prefer it that way. You can control your own portion sizes, eat at your own pace and not have to wait ages between courses for your plates to be prepared. The quality of the food is high, and replenished quickly when necessary.

The entertainment provided in the bar is surprisingly not a corny cabaret affair and we enjoyed it immensely. Thanks, in no small part I should think, to the copious amounts of alcohol we were plied with by cheerful bar staff, but the less said about that the better!
