Merit Park Hotel Review - 11 of 39 Reviews

Our expectations of the Mercure were really high before we went. My husband and I had booked a luxurious break away for our anniversary and had chosen the hotel because of how gorgeous it looked in the pictures. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to expectations.

The décor in the hotel was lovely and everything was perfectly clean so I guess on that front you can't complain. The problem is that if it promotes itself as a 5 star, you expect 5 star standard and it just wasn't.

Our room had a balcony and beautiful view but it was very small. We didn't have much room for the both of us to get dressed. Also, the maid service was inconsistent. On some days they forgot to replenish things and we had to ask for extra towels. The reception staff weren't too bothered about this and it took ages for them to send anymore towels to us.

The hotel restaurant was spacious and offered a really great variety for breakfast. However, for dinner, the menu lacked choice. We found ourselves preferring to go to other local restaurants, which proved a good idea anyway.

Obviously the hotel had great facilities. In all honesty it is hard to put your finger on what was lacking. It's almost as if the hotel managers recognise that they are a top hotel and have got complacent because of it. If this had been a 4 star we would have been perfectly happy.
