Our one week's holiday turned into two and a half weeks thank to the Icelandic volcano!

On arrival we were impressed with the overall appearance of the hotel. Our room was a smoking one but when we complained were told we had not requested a non-smoking one. However, we were moved without any problem. If you are in a sea-facing room be prepared to be woken in the early hours by staff cleaning the seating area below! The hotel is set in lovely grounds, is immacuately clean and spacious and there is a good self-service restaurant with a wide choice of dishes. Wine and other alcohol is very expensive.

There is a hotel bus which takes guests into Kyrenia but it only runs once a day and it collects guests 6 hours later, which we found too long a wait. The hotel beach was not open during our first week but when we went there we could not find the sand! It was, however, very pleasant and secluded with a fish restaurant - which we did not use.

There is a lovely indoor sauna, pool, steam room, gymnasium and hairdressers (highly recommended!) with other therapeutic treatments However, we were unable to find the arcade of shops! There was one very small shop selling designer leather goods with a very limited stock of essentials but opening times varied daily - some days it remained closed. There was only one computer in the hotel for guests' use but the wait to get onto it was sometimes hours! Also, be warned - the keyboard has Turkish keys and it takes some getting used to them.

We are retired an enjoyed the peace and relaxation of the area but if you want to be entertained you need to hire a car or use a taxi as there is nothing within several miles of the hotel.

5* it is not, if you use the UK gradings as a comparison, but it is certainly value for money. Staff appear a little distant and abrupt on occasion but sometimes language is a problem. Once they get to know you some of them can be very pleasant and helpful. We would certainly like to return to this hotel but in the meantime I am trying to learn some basic Turkish!!

Liked — The weather! Also the amazing sights in the area.
Disliked — Location, in the sense of being a good 15 minutes' drive from Kyrenia.
