We arrived after a drive up from Paphos on Friday to find the request for a room close to our friends' room had been carried out - next door, excellent. Friendly and attentive staff in a light and airy Reception area was our first impression and things just stayed like that until we left after the weekend. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, either in the restaurant (nearly), in the bar or by the pool - the pool needs a big mention. One of our group is a lady of a delicate age who does not like deep water, so I was sent off to check the varying depths all round both pools - what a lovely setting and safe enough for anyone to use / enjoy, well done.

Kyrenia on Saturday was enjoyable, drink on arrival into town, ladies went shopping, I got a paper and settled at the harbour to enjoy the peace and quiet. Hours later a mountain of carrier bags appeared around the corner, so it was lunch and drinks at harbour-side, followed by the drive back to the Malpas and the remainder of the afternoon pool-side. Staff falling over themselves to get towels, arrange umbrellas, bring drinks - not quite sure "Pretty man!" is the right way to address guests, but the ladies had a good laugh (for the rest of the weekend!).

Bellapais Abbey on Sunday was good, Tree of Idleness seemed a good spot for a beer, also a good photo opportunity when the ladies found me there - why they haven't got a second Tree of Idleness at Malpas I'll never know, the hotel is so laid-back that is all you want to be (idle). Evening farewell meal and drinks was a fun affair for all.

Monday, in the car, meet some friends from Kyrenia then back down the highway to Paphos - a totally relaxing and enjoyable time had by all.

Couple of points:

1. The restaurant and bar staff need to talk to each other re wine availability - the restaurant said they had no more Chilean Malbec after Friday night, the bar found some that evening. Ditto on the Saturday night.

2. There was a family with 2 small boys, who let them run around unchecked at every mealtime - one of the boys even stuck his fingers in food, tasted food with the serving spoon then put the spoon into the serving dish, and generally messed around with the cakes on display for dessert. Staff, including the restaurant Manager(!!) just stood around and totally ignored this, while the guests were getting pretty irate. A very low point of an otherwise enjoyable break.
