My husband and I got a very good deal for a winter break to North Cyprus via GoNorthCyprus.com. The agent, Gary, was very helpful. We booked the Malpas Hotel because it seemed to have good reviews and as it was a five star we were hoping for a bit of luxury.

In all honesty we were a bit disappointed with the Malpas. It didn't live up to our expectations of what a five star hotel should be like. It had plenty of facilities and the casino was a popular choice with guests but it lacked that attention to detail that you'd expect.

Our deal included a stay in one of the chalets set in the hotel grounds. It was well kept and clean but it was really quite far out from the main building which was a pain, particularly at breakfast time.

The food at the Malpas was a bit hit and miss. The breakfast choice was really good, with fresh fruit and continental platters. The hot food, however, wasn't as tasty and we found the same with our evening meal. It was the kind of food you'd expect from a cheap and cheerful pub chain rather than somewhere that had five star accreditation.

The one good thing about the Malpas was its very friendly staff. For a large hotel, they do look after their guests very well.

If we were offered the cheap deal that we'd been given this time, my husband and I would probably stay at the Malpas again but in one of their main hotel rooms. However, I certainly wouldn't have spent any more money on our stay.
