Northern Cyprus is a really great and underrated destination for family holidays. Around Kyrenia there are some fantastic beaches and the mountain range is great backdrop for its beautiful scenery. It was for these reasons that we called GoNorthCyprus in November (2015) to book our third trip there in five years. Mandy gave us a great run-down of the options in our price range (which is not exactly stellar) and we plumped for the LA Hotel after hearing that some of the rooms were in direct view of the mountains themselves.

Travelling to the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised to find the area mostly free of the swathes of rampaging tourists you often find in Mediterranean destinations during the holiday season.

The hotel itself is full of character. Thankfully it was actually a very nice place once we scratched the surface. There are several pools (including an infinity pool!) that are kept nicely clean, as is the beach next door which is an ideal starter beach for kids since the water is so clear.

The food here is a bit of a mixed bag, with the fresh stuff being really good and the cooked stuff changing regularly. We got the impression much of it was pre-prepared and there was some evidence of repeat menu's but it wasn't unpleasant at all. The staff were great in general, but understandably very busy during the time we were there. There is potential here for a great holiday, so do consider the LA Hotel if you're looking for a good all rounder.
