Hotel Sempati Review - 7 of 30 Reviews

We enjoyed a lovely winter break at the Sempati Hotel in North Cyprus, with sunshine every day and no mention of the credit crunch all week - what a change from the UK. I was a little nervous about flying into Larnaca in the south and then crossing the border into north Cyprus, but our taxi driver was there waiting for us on time, and the journey very straightforward. He also helped with our cases, and drove very sensibly, not racing along as every other Cyprus taxi driver seems to do.

The hotel was fairly quiet as we went in late November, and most of their trade must be in the summer, but that suited us. As a result, the staff were polite and attentive, and the food excellent for all meals we ate. The chef was very kind in coping with my husband's unusual dietary requirements too. The receptionist also gave us free tea and coffee making facilities in our room, which you normally have to pay for. The bar prices felt a little high to us, but that was due to the exchange rate I suspect, and we are not great drinkers.

We enjoyed sitting out on our balcony in the sunshine, but decided to hire a car for two days to explore a little, including the mountainside part of Lapta, which is quite different from the coastal strip, with lemon groves and rushing streams. The hotel booked us a nice little hire car which was delivered to the hotel, so we did not have to go anywhere to collect it. Driving into Kyrenia (about 10 miles away) was a little tiring, as everyone seemed to know where they were going except us! Next time, we would take a taxi instead, as they are cheap and the hotel will arrange it all.

We had a very relaxing time at the Sempati and thank all the staff for their kindness and attention.
