Dome Hotel Review - 66 of 93 Reviews

I stayed at the Dome for 5 nights in a sea view room. We had a room on the 4th floor at the side of the hotel overlooking the army barracks. Without a doubt the best thing about the Dome is the location and the stunning sea and sunset views. The hotel is located right in the heart of Kyrenia and just 5 mins walk to the beautiful harbour, which is lovely at night. The pool area is nice and this leads down to the sea which you can swim in. Breakfast was ok, a good selection but the quality of the food and drink was not great. Did not eat in the restaurants as there is a great choice right outside the hotel at much more competitive prices. Generally the staff were friendly.

Now the not so good. When I booked the hotel I knew that I would not be staying in a modern 5 star hotel as the dome was built in the 1930's. Unfortunately the rooms were shabby and really needed a refurbishment. Whilst the views were amazing on the balcony, it was tiny and only just fitted 2 chairs and a small table. The hotel is really let down by the rooms. Perhaps the other rooms are different to room 405 which we stayed in.

Kyrenia is a great place to stay and I would rather stay here rather than in one of the hotels outside of Kyrenia. When I come back to Kyrenia I would probably not stay at the Dome, maybe Rocks If I can afford it. We also hired a car with British Car Rental which I would recommend, and drove to the south to Coral Bay, Paphos. Out of both sides of the island the North is more scenic, cheaper, and friendlier and I will defiantly be returning to Kyrenia.

One thing to look out for: When we arrived at the hotel I asked for an iron and ironing board. I was told by reception they did not have any, but they could send the clothes off to be ironed. I was told there would not be a charge. When we checked out the hotel they tried to charge us 80TL for 5 items of clothes that had been ironed!! We complained to the duty manager who said that the receptionist said there was no charge had clearly made a mistake and put it down to language difficulties. I said that's not my fault and I do not expect to pay, in any event the ironing would not have cost anything more than 20TL not 80TL. Eventually we were told that we would not be charged. My advice is to ensure you sign for any charges and if you don't then you should not have to pay especially if you have been told there is no charge.
