“Very helpful staff but hotel is old and tired”
We stayed at the Dome in June 2010. Our original stay was planned for 10 days but lasted only 3. You can't beat the location - right on the sea front and close to the Marina for a stroll in the evening. The front of house area is fine - clean and tidy - and the pool is excellent. Food is average to low - pretty ordinary and not that hot, but plenty of it. The rooms are very tired - carpeted instead of cool tiles. The hairdrier is scary - the hotel has broken the casing of the host socket and hot-wired it from there. The bathroom is desperately in need of a refurb - black mould around the mastic and again generally tired. The room doesn't automatically lock, meaning you could leave it open accidentally if you forget to press the button before you leave.
Remember this is a foundation hotel - partly government owned. I really don't know why they get involved, as they don't spend any money on the properties (I've stayed in a similar hotel in Nicosia) and probably end up driving tourists away as a result.
We would probably have stayed, but we ended up sharing our room with a six-legged visitor. To be fair, the large cockroach was dead when we found it, but the thought that it might not have been when we arrived was too much for us and we decided to leave.
At this point, you could have forgiven the staff for being grumpy and unhelpful, but they were the complete opposite. They did everything they could to help us move as easily as possible. The Travel Agency "GoCyprus" were exceltionally helpful. At 5 pm on a Saturday afternoon,(when you couldn't even have contacted a UK agent) their agent rang me and personally arranged alternative accommodation at the Savoy Ottoman. Check out my review there - if this is chalk, then the Savoy is the cheese.
Liked — The location and the helpful staff
Disliked — The cockroach that shared our room
