This is a hotel review for Dome Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“Charming colonial hotel, in need of some TLC”
The Dome IS Kyrenia. Its position is perfect, the swimming pools are lovely, the breakfast is excellent, the rooms are comfortable.....but.... Having stayed here on previous occasions not much has changed, and that might be the problem for anyone who has never been to North Cyprus, and who might expect a spick and span modern hotel. The Dome's charm is its quaintness, but it could also be its downfall. Sit on your balcony watching the sun set couldn't be more picturesque. Then you notice the cracks in the wall. Have a shower, and the taps don't quite fit, sticking out from the wall as if a job lot had been bought some 50 years ago. Walk along the corridor outside your room and you notice the carpet is worn in odd areas.
However, the Dome is clean, comfortable, and couldn't be more peaceful. Above all, remember this is North Cyprus, not a resort in southern Spain. The people, both in the hotel and around, are polite and helpful. Across the road is the wonderful Niazi's restaurant, and the port is a pleasant stroll from the hotel.
A great place to stay, but it will need some money spending on it in the not-too-distant future to attract more visitors from the rest of Europe. If that is what it wants, of course. The majority of guests are from mainland Turkey, and they seem to like it there!
Liked — Cleanliness, breakfast, staff - all excellent
Disliked — Nothing. Take it for what it is.
