Denizkizi Royal Hotel Review - 17 of 44 Reviews

We stayed at the Denizkizi 3 star, not the Royal and although pleasant and clean, it didn't quite do it for us; there was an underlying atmosphere of lack of care. The rooms are nice - big picture windows with amazing views and clean but again, a lack of customer care seemed prevalent. No useful info in the rooms and it is only several days into your stay when you become aware of all the things you wanted to know at the start by a process of elimination. The staff weren't 'unpleasant' but they certainly weren't particularly bothered either and most of them couldn't speak much English (my Turkish isn't so good either but that's beside the point!). I had read other reviews on another site concerning the food and I think I have to agree with those who mentioned that the food was inconsistent in quality and often very repetitive. We found the dinner to be overly expensive and not that imaginative and breakfast was mediocre at best. On a plus note - the beach is lovely but does get very busy as they allow people not staying at the hotel to pay to use it. The surrounding area is ok with a couple of supermarkets and a pharmacy but don't expect to find much in the way of restaurants unless you hire a car or take the dolmus (minibus) to Kyrenia or up into the mountains. There is a very nice Indian restaurant about 2km away and if you fancy an adventure, head up to Karaman about 4km up the mountain, for supper at one of the little bistros. This is one of the most idylic little villages I have ever seen and well worth a visit. Also worth a trip is Bellapais - the monastery is superb and delightfully tranquil. If you can afford it, stay at the Hotel Bellapais Gardens (look it up - I wish I had!) - it is superb! My best piece of advice - hire a car, otherwise it may be a long week unless you just like sunbathing.....
