This is a hotel review for Colony Hotel in Kyrenia, North Cyprus
“My choice is the Colony Hotel!”
I've visited Kyrenia quite a few times now, and I've been a resident at many of the hotels that the region has to offer. The Colony Hotel was a recommendation from gonorthcyprus booking company (many thanks to Sue, the agent I used) whilst admittedly unlikely to compete with the more extravagant and larger 4-5* hotels in the area in terms of facilities, it is still an absolute gem. It's definitely the best among the smaller accommodations I've used - anywhere.
The room I was given was spacious, nicely decorated and well-equipped. As other reviewers online have mentioned, I don't think that an iron/ironing board is provided as standard but the staff are only too happy to supply one on request. My room had a large balcony looking out onto the road that runs past the front of the hotel- brilliant for people watching, perhaps not so good if it's peace and quiet you're after, but I'm sure in that case the hotel manager would gladly have found me an alternative room.
The restaurant has both buffet and a la carte options (both fantastic) with a large selection of breakfast foods in the morning. Service during meals is really excellent, which is something I've found lacking in other hotels that offer a buffet- understandable of course, since at a buffet you're generally expected to serve yourself, but it's still nice to be waited on.
One of the real joys of the Colony is its proximity to the harbour (something I won't harp on about, since it's so well documented that Kyrenia harbour is beautiful). Rather than paying through the nose for taxis or waiting around eternally for public transport, you can opt for a short 10-15 minute walk at your own pace, which is infinitely preferable (at least for me). I'd advise taking some time to explore some of the local establishments (cafes and such) during the day/early evening. There are some pleasant surprises tucked away.
As a final note, if Kyrenia (for some strange reason) isn't exactly your cup of tea, there are fairly regular bus services to Famagusta and other similar locations. I know I complained about public transport in the previous paragraph, but honestly speaking the buses in this part of the world aren't too bad.
Liked — Fantastically well placed hotel - a real gem
Disliked — Not a single thing
