We booked the British Hotel because we don't drive and we wanted to stay right in the centre of Kyrenia, rather than outside the city in a resort hotel. The British Hotel was ideal as it overlooked the harbour, and the entrance was up a pretty little cobbled side street. From the balcony in our room we had a superb view across the harbour to Kyrenia Castle, which was a great place to sit and watch the boats come and go. I would imagine in high summer it could be noisy on your balcony from the restaurants below, but we had no problems.

Our room was comfortable and clean, if not large, and the bathroom was very clean and well maintained. The beds were not over-hard like some business hotels have (I hate a bed like a board!). I was glad there was a lift in the hotel, as it has four floors and we were on the third.

Breakfast was well cooked, but we ate in their restaurant for only one night, as we enjoys trying different places to eat when on holiday. We very much enjoyed being able to eat at any of the harbourside restaurants and just walk along the harbour to get 'home' to our hotel. All the Turkish Cypriots we met were very welcoming and were very pleased when we chose traditional dishes or fish rather than the tourist menu fare.

The staff were very friendly and very patient with us 'oldies', and always asked if they could help with taxis, etc. We booked a taxi transfer from Ercan airport, which was very convenient and got us to the British hotel in under 50 minutes, and the hotel booked us a taxi back, which actually was cheaper.

We went for a drink one night at the Dome Hotel to compare the two, and while the Dome had better outdoor areas, I felt that the British Hotel had a more personal feel. I also saw with some satisfaction that we had paid a lot less to stay in the British Hotel than it would have cost us there!
